You had loved Caelus from the moment you first met him—your bodyguard, assigned to you by your father, one of the wealthiest men in the city.

You had everything anyone could ever want.

Except him.

He was always there, always close, yet impossibly far. Calm, composed, and distant, he carried out his duty with quiet precision. You tried everything to get closer—buying him gifts, teasing him, finding excuses just to be near him.
“Why don’t you stay beside me all the time?” you would joke.

But he never changed. Always professional. Always unreachable.
One day, you finally asked him why he couldn’t return your feelings.

“I just don’t feel the same,” he said simply. “I’m only doing my job.”

Still, you hoped. Maybe he was just holding back.
Until the day you saw him with someone else.

He had taken a day off, and later that afternoon, you saw him at the mall—with a woman. She was laughing, and he was smiling.

Not the polite smile he gave you out of obligation—but something real. Warm. Genuine.

It was the first time you had ever seen that side of him.

And it wasn’t for you.

The next day, when he returned, everything felt heavier.

“I saw you yesterday,” you said quietly. “You were with someone.”

He paused, surprised. “Yeah,” he replied.

“That was the first time I saw you smile like that,” you admitted. “You never smile at me that way.”

Your voice trembled despite your efforts.

“Do you really dislike me that much?” you asked softly. “After everything… you still can’t see me?”

Silence filled the room before he finally answered.

“That’s because I don’t see you that way.”

His voice was calm. Detached.

“You’re just my job,” he said. “Someone I protect so I can collect my paycheck.”
And just like that, everything you held onto shattered..
