Relations
Susie
Ralsei wants to be friends with Susie for the same reason he wants to be friends with Kris. However, Susie doesn't appreciate Ralsei's attempts to coach her, as he constantly teaches her to be kind to others. Susie eventually quits the party and develops a rivalry with Ralsei. However, this rivalry is more childish than hateful; Susie tends to tease him, calling him "toothpaste boy" during her time with Lancer. Ralsei, on the other hand, seems to regret offending Susie and still cares for her. After Susie rejoins the party, she finally decides to stop teasing Ralsei after he promises to bake cakes for her.
In Chapter 2, Ralsei is overjoyed to see Susie and Kris again and later heals Susie after she falls from a pile of trash in Cyber City. Later, Susie personally takes Ralsei deeper into the Cyber Cities, separating from Kris, and they spend time together as a duo enjoying the festivities. During this time, Ralsei teaches Susie healing spells, and Susie, in turn, teaches him sarcasm, further strengthening their relationship.
Relations
Kris
Ralsei cares deeply for Kris. He wants to befriend Kris to create the trio of heroes mentioned in the prophecy, which he wishes to fulfill. Ralsei is very respectful and friendly toward Kris, even going so far as to offer Kris a blade as a servant or pretend to be okay with being hit. Even if Kris acts rudely toward Ralsei, he won't be offended and may even blame himself. Ralsei also seems to be easily embarrassed or intimidated by Kris, as it's easy for Kris to make him blush, as seen when Kris is around him. They are a duo for half of Chapter 1, before Susie changes her ways and joins them again.
They have more moments together during Chapter 2 in the Acid Tunnel of Love, where Ralsei confides in Kris how lovely it's been spending time with them and Susie. If the player gets Kris to open up to Ralsei, he becomes flustered. Their time together has been wonderful, and they spend more time as a team of two when Susie temporarily separates from them. Ralsei occasionally makes flirtatious comments to Kris, and at one point asks if Kris was going to propose to him in Chapter 2 upon seeing the Snow Ring.
History
Ralsei later arrives in Castle Town, after Kris has repopulated the city with recruits from the Cyber World. Ralsei introduces Queen to his new life.
History
Later, Kris sees Ralsei eating cotton candy with Susie. Ralsei and Susie spend a lot of time together off-screen, during which Ralsei teaches her how to cast a healing spell.
Ralsei and Susie finally reunite with Kris, and after a few riddles, they finally reach the Queen's Mansion. At the entrance, the Queen captures Kris, Susie, Berdly, and Noelle, but she doesn't have a cage for Ralsei, making him her butler instead. After Kris, Susie, and Berdly free themselves from their rooms thanks to Lancer, Susie takes Lancer to Ralsei to cure his sudden illness, but Lancer turns to stone, and Ralsei explains that he is incompatible with this Dark World and must be sent back to Castle Town. Berdly asks Susie to follow him to save Noelle, leaving Ralsei alone with Kris.
Ralsei and Kris ride a swan-shaped float across Queen's acid lake. During the ride, they discuss their relationship with Kris and Susie. After a fight with Rouxls Kaard, they reach the end of the acid lake where they take a picture. After the ride, Ralsei asks Kris to close her eyes and imagine what Susie might be doing.
After Susie joins them upon landing on Ralsei, they set out to defeat Queen. A fight ensues when Berdly disconnects from the cable Queen uses to control him, and he flees to his mecha, GIGA Queen, which he uses to attack the group. With Berdly's help and the help of all the Darkners they recruited, they create a giant Thrash machine to defeat her. After the fight, Berdly, having turned his back on them after being disconnected, decides to build his own Dark World, having learned from Queen that any Lightner can do so. However, Ralsei interrupts him and teaches everyone about the Roaring. Queen admits to being unaware of it and apologizes for disrupting the party. Ralsei tells Queen about Castle Town while Kris and Susie go to seal the Dark Source.
History 2
Traveling through the Cyber Field, they encounter Queen, who challenges them to an arcade game. Since Kris is too short to reach the controls, Ralsei helps them by letting them use him as a stool. Later, they run into Sweet Cap'n Cakes, a group of rebels who mistake the party for Queen's henchmen and start a fight. Ralsei suggests Kris order the party to dance to distract the rebels from fighting them, but they can't get everyone to dance at once. Susie points out to Ralsei that he doesn't need Kris's commands to dance and teaches him how to dance on his own. They eventually succeed and become friends with the trio. Later, the party finds three themed roller coasters following them. Ralsei suggests riding them to reach the Dark Source, but during their ride, they encounter Queen waiting for them and send Berdly to fight. After winning the battle, Queen tells the group that the roller coaster isn't finished before letting them crash into Cyber City's Junk Zone below. After landing in the Junk Zone, Susie is injured, and Ralsei asks if she wants him to check her over. She refuses, but he does anyway, using a healing spell by hugging her. Ralsei then offers to teach her his healing spell, and she agrees. Before leaving the Junk Zone, Ralsei informs Kris about the adjustment to his inventory, which Susie remarks seems like useful information.
Upon entering the city, the road forks. Ralsei asks Kris who they want to go with, but Susie believes it's her turn to decide and goes with Ralsei while Kris continues alone.
History 2
The next day, after Kris and Susie return to Castle Town, they encounter Ralsei again. He tells them it seems like a long time has passed since he last saw them, explaining that he's never had friends before, so he hasn't had to wait for them to return. Susie asks where everyone is, and Ralsei tells Kris to go to the unused classroom east of the storage closet, gather everything, and bring it back to the Dark World.
After Kris returns and all the citizens of the Dark World appear, Ralsei takes Susie and Kris to his castle, showing them their rooms. He tells them they can go there no matter what's happening outside. Once Kris is ready to leave, Susie mentions that she doesn't want to do their group project, to which Ralsei responds by banishing them from the kingdom until the project is finished, believing school is more important.
In the Library, Kris and Susie discover a new Dark World called the Cyber World. They encounter the Queen, who has kidnapped Noelle and attempted to get rid of them by sending Werewires to fight them. Ralsei suddenly appears and pacifies the Werewires. Somehow, having learned about this new Dark World, he joins the group on their quest to seal this new Source and save Noelle.
History
and resort to ACTING, much to Ralsei's delight. Despite being on better terms now, Susie still finds joy in teasing Ralsei. For example, during the second encounter with King Round, she defeats him by throwing Ralsei into his crown until he falls off.
Upon reaching the castle rooftop, the group finally encounters King, the guardian of the Dark Source who seeks to rule the Lightningers. Ralsei attempts to dissuade him from fighting, but King refuses to listen and a battle ensues. When Ralsei tries to reason with King during the fight, King is amused by Ralsei's naiveté and simply laughs at him. After being defeated, King surrenders and apologizes for his actions, asking to resolve their conflicts peacefully. Ralsei accepts his surrender and asks to befriend him, which King agrees to. Ralsei then heals King but immediately launches a surprise attack on the party, attempting to kill them, before being stopped by either Lancer or Ralsei, depending on whether the player has damaged any enemies (with the exception of the battle with the Dummy, Lancer (and also Susie), and Jevil).
Afterward, Ralsei apologizes to Susie for thinking he could resolve the fight peacefully, realizing he endangered everyone by believing King had surrendered. Susie forgives him, having also learned that constant violence isn't the answer. Now that the Source is accessible, Ralsei tells Kris and Susie to go and seal it, but before they do, he bids them farewell and removes his hat, revealing his face, much to Susie's surprise. He promises to bake her a cake upon his return, and she promises to be kinder to him.
History
Susie, now in the party, doesn't get along with Ralsei, due to Ralsei's pacifist tendencies and Susie's aggressive, confrontational approach. This causes King Round to flee upon their encounter. After traveling through the Great Board, they reach King Round and a battle ensues. Susie focuses on attacking King Round, which proves futile, as he can heal himself infinitely. Ralsei, following Kris's advice, begins to bow, causing the boss to do the same, until the crown that grants him power falls from his head, ending the battle. Ralsei berates Susie for her ineffectiveness during the battle and tells her to start acting like the hero she is. Offended by his reprimand, Susie decides to join Lancer as a villain, as she has a genuine admiration for his villainy.
During Kris and Ralsei's journey through the Forest, Ralsei becomes the target of many of Lancer and Susie's schemes. He's pleased that Susie has finally found a friend and hopes the hostility between them won't last long. The two rival teams eventually engage in a battle, agreeing that the losing side must join the winners. Regardless of the outcome, the two sides are united, and Lancer now sides with them. After Susie complains about being hungry, Ralsei offers to bake her a cake if she stops teasing him, but she refuses and laughs at him.
Lancer then turns his back on the group and sends a troop of Rudinn Rangers to imprison them in Card Castle's dungeon. After waking up in the same cell as Kris, Ralsei asks them to find a way out. When they fail, they hear Susie, who has managed to escape. While searching for a way out, Ralsei tells Kris to imagine what she might be doing. They are eventually freed by Susie, and the three take the elevator to the next floor of the castle. In the elevator, Susie tells Ralsei that she is willing to listen to him.
History
Chapter 1
Ralsei is the first Darkner Kris and Susie encounter upon arriving in Castle Town. He appears as a hooded figure who greets them by name at his castle gate. He introduces himself as a "Prince of Darkness" and tells the two classmates about the Prophecy, explaining that he, Kris, and Susie are the heroes and must fulfill their duty to save the world. Susie shows no interest in doing so. After being interrupted by Lancer bumping into him and starting a brief fight with Kris and Susie, Ralsei removes his cloak and properly introduces himself.
Since Susie refuses to join the party, Ralsei ends up alone with Kris. He first teaches them how to fight in the Dark World using a dummy that resembles him. He tells Kris that fighting isn't necessary and teaches them how to deal peacefully with any enemies they encounter. The two get to know each other better through this interaction, after which Ralsei offers Kris an instruction manual. Fighting with the dummy or throwing away the manual saddens Ralsei.
After that, the two enter the Card Kingdom, starting in the Field. On their way, they run into Lancer several times, who is unsuccessfully trying to antagonize them with his father's will. Ralsei, seeing how ineffective Lancer is, isn't threatened by him and instead does his best to befriend him. They also encounter many enemies and other Darkners warning them about Susie's rampage and beating. Ralsei is worried and tells Kris that they have to stop her as soon as possible. They eventually find her, trapped in a puzzle that requires three party members to solve it. After solving the puzzle, Ralsei convinces Susie that she can't continue alone and should join the party.
Personality
Ralsei is very humble and kind, showing genuine concern for his friends' well-being to the point of being selfless. At the beginning of Chapter 1, Ralsei goes out of his way to befriend Kris and Susie in order to fulfill the Prophecy with them. Trying to stay on good terms, he shows reluctance to get angry and seems disappointed when Kris or Susie act badly. However, Ralsei remains convinced that they have good in them and that fighting is unnecessary in this world. His naiveté nearly costs him his life when he accepts King's fake surrender and heals him, allowing him to betray and defeat them. Ralsei learns from this not to always be so trustworthy with others. In Chapter 2, he becomes a bit more serious when Queen attempts to create another Dark Source: he explains The Roaring. In Chapter 3, his personality and character development deepen; he reveals that he believes he doesn't exist. In Chapter 4, he acts strangely as he tries to move forward, and although he claims not to know when to speak, he is shown to be anxious around the Titan and the darkness. After the Titan's defeat, he is deeply distressed when he discovers that Susie has moved on, trying to prevent her from seeing the final prophecy. As time passes, Ralsei indicates that he is aware of the player's existence, at one point looking directly at them and questioning them, and also demonstrating his ability to control Susie. He will often try to steer the player's attention elsewhere so he can have private conversations with Kris. While Ralsei seems to want the player to show mercy to the dark ones, on multiple occasions he will indirectly advise them against going down the Strange Route, referring to the choices associated with it as "bad choices" and directly warning them, and Kris by extension, that it leads to a worse fate for them all.
Appearance
Ralsei is depicted as a short Darkner. He initially wears a dark blue hooded cloak that obscures his face, resembling the River Person. During Chapter 1, Ralsei's pointed green hat covers his horns, concealing his entire face in shadow. He wears round green glasses, a pink scarf, and a long green cloak with a black heart in the center. At the end of Chapter 1 and in Chapter 2, he is revealed to be strikingly similar to a younger Boss Monster, though he has pink horns. He also has new black sleeves and no longer wears his hat. Sometime in Chapter 2, he becomes a butler for a time, sporting a black tuxedo, a pink bow tie, and a white shirt. He removes his glasses at one point in the same chapter, revealing pink irises and eyeshadow with relatively long eyelashes. In Chapter 3, during the first physical challenge after the first board, he wears a white apron with a pink bow tie (potentially his scarf) and a chef's hat with black sleeves. During the rhythm game segment, he's dressed in black pants, a black vest, and a silver necklace, along with a silver chain hanging from his right pocket. Some fan art depicts him wearing a crop top under his vest because of the chain, but in the game, he doesn't actually wear anything underneath. Both Noelle and Asgore have noted that he looks very similar to Asriel, yet also distinct and different.
