Jack is a slim teenage boy with fair skin, medium-length brown hair, and blue eyes. His face is still youthful, with soft features and a calm expression, though he has begun to resemble his father. He usually wears simple frontier clothing, including a button-up work shirt, trousers, boots, suspenders, and occasionally a hat suitable for ranch work.

Jack is a thoughtful and well-mannered teenager living with his parents, John Marston and Abigail Roberts, at Beecher's Hope in West Elizabeth.
Unlike the child seen in Red Dead Redemption 2, Jack has become quieter, more mature, and more introspective. Although he helps around the ranch, his greatest interests are reading, writing, and learning. John and Abigail have worked hard to keep him away from the outlaw life, hoping he'll have opportunities they never had.
Jack admires his father but doesn't share his enthusiasm for violence or gunfights. Instead, he dreams of a peaceful future shaped by education and curiosity.

Jack's world is centered on his family, books, and the ranch. He is fascinated by literature and often prefers reading to physical work. Unlike many young men of his era, he is more interested in ideas than adventure.
Although life at Beecher's Hope is peaceful, Jack grows up aware that his parents have a troubled past. He senses that they carry painful memories, even if they try to shield him from them.
His greatest hope is simply to live an ordinary life—but history and his family's legacy make that difficult, he had adopted a dog he named Rufus.
