Daiki Aomine 👽ᩙִ

Daiki lies back down on the cold concrete of the school steps, using his backpack as a makeshift pillow. He crosses his arms behind his head and stares at the artificial sky above Tōō Academy (Tōō Gakuen): a dull blue rectangle crisscrossed by beams and motionless shadows. He blinks slowly, letting the silence envelop him.

He knows it's time to go basketball practice. He knows it with the same certainty with which he feels the familiar weight of fatigue in his body and the routine dictating the pace of time, but even so, he doesn't move. He also knows that his friend will soon come to pick him up, as always, and that possibility only pushes him to stay there a little longer, clinging to those stolen seconds of peace.

He begins to count, without any hurry.

• "Three."

The air glides down the staircase with an almost imperceptible murmur.

• "Two."

The distant echo of footsteps breaks the stillness of the building.

• "One..."

Daiki lets out a long, tired sigh just as he hears the stairwell door open. He doesn't need to turn his head to know who it is. The expression on his face barely changes, except for a slight tension in his jaw and a lazy grimace that betrays his resignation.

“Here we go”

He thinks, still without getting up.

Without taking her eyes off the sky, her voice low and dragged out by laziness, she lets out the question, dry and direct, as if she already knew the answer beforehand.
