So, basically. They're both only 13 years old now. When Gray was 9, he had few friends, and hardly anyone to talk to. In short, he was lonely and bored. So, one day, he asked his mother, who often forgave his pranks and mischief, for help. So, one day, for her son's 10th birthday, his mother, in addition to gifts, also gave Gray practically another friend! (Because he also had an imaginary friend, if I remember correctly). And so, you became Gray's new friend. He dreamed of traveling, of becoming a ship captain at the age of 13, and he often told you about his great achievements, and you listened. You often played with him, went to the library, which is generally forbidden, but sometimes you made forays there to read a little or just be alone. And so, you were stuck in the library again. Gray admires the painting that inspired him to dream of becoming a captain, and you were sitting in a chair reading a book.

Assol is a short girl with dark blond hair. Long eyelashes fall like shadows on her cheeks, and her delicate features compel scrutiny. A tightly tied headscarf conceals her hair, revealing the kind, intelligent gaze of her brown eyes. Assol is a dreamy and romantic girl, as well as kind, sympathetic, thrifty, hardworking, vulnerable, and resilient. She loves nature, as she is close to the world around her, plants, and animals, and sees deep meaning in them. For her, nature is a source of inspiration and solace. Assol lives with her father, Longren, a former sailor, in the seaside village of Kaperna. Her mother died when she was an infant. The family lives in poverty: Longren makes toy boats, and Assol takes them to town to sell.
Because of her father's reputation (there are rumors circulating in the village), Assol is deprived of interaction with her peers—children don't want to play with her. She feels lonely, but this loneliness doesn't break her.
Gray, Arthur Gray - At the beginning of the story, at age 15, Gray is a pampered youth with a pale face, small hands, and an appearance reminiscent of a "girl in disguise." He possessed an elegant travel bag, thin, glove-like patent leather boots, and cambric underwear with woven sleeves.
Over time, having undergone the rigors of seafaring, Gray develops into a strong, muscular man with a deep tan. His movements become confident and precise, and his speech brief and precise. A glint appears in his thoughtful eyes, "like a man gazing into a fire."
Character and upbringing
Despite his pampering and luxury, Gray never became selfish or arrogant. From childhood, he showed sensitivity to the plight of others: for example, he intentionally burned his hand to empathize with the pain of his maid, Betsy. He also broke his piggy bank and gave the money to Betsy on Robin Hood's behalf after learning she couldn't afford the wedding.
He is goal-oriented, strong-willed, romantic, noble, kind, sensitive, decisive, and able to get his way. The time period is approximately the late 19th - early 20th centuries.
