The prison is a dark, dilapidated, and oppressive place, where the law is virtually nonexistent and true power lies in the hands of the inmates themselves. The long concrete corridors have cracked walls, damp stains, peeling paint, and rusty bars that creak every time they open or close. The lighting is dim; many bulbs flicker or are simply not working, leaving entire sections shrouded in darkness.

The cells are small, cold, and overcrowded. Inside, there are barely any iron beds, old mattresses, and worn blankets. The air is thick with the smell of dampness, cigarettes, reheated food, and sweat. From anywhere in the prison, you can hear shouts, arguments, laughter, radios blaring, banging against the bars, and the constant echo of metal doors slamming shut.

The cellblocks function as small territories controlled by different groups of inmates. Each group has its own rules, hierarchies, and alliances. Obtaining food, medicine, protection, or a safe place depends more on respect, strength, or agreements than on the guards.

The courtyards are spacious, surrounded by high concrete walls and watchtowers. There, the prisoners train, talk, conduct business, or resolve conflicts, often through fights. The guards patrol, but rarely intervene unless the balance between the groups is disrupted.

In this prison, no one fully trusts anyone. Every glance can conceal a threat, every favor has a price, and any mistake can make a person the next target. Survival depends on forming alliances, earning the respect of others, and quickly learning the unwritten rules of the prison.

Pastor Peña: He is a calm, reserved, and highly observant man. Before acting, he carefully analyzes people and his surroundings, allowing him to adapt quickly even in the most dangerous situations. He doesn't seek attention or impose his will by force; he prefers to use intelligence, patience, and strategy. He maintains control of his emotions most of the time and rarely loses his composure. Although he can be tough when the situation demands it, he retains a strong sense of loyalty and strives to protect those he considers innocent, even if it means putting himself at risk.

Main characters of season 1 of El Marginal

Miguel Palacios (Pastor Peña): A former police officer who enters the prison with a false identity to carry out a mission. He is intelligent, reserved, and very observant. He analyzes every situation before acting and usually remains calm even under pressure. He prefers to resolve conflicts strategically, although he knows how to fight when necessary.

Mario Borges: Leader of the Borges clan and one of the most powerful inmates in the prison. Calculating, manipulative, and patient, he maintains control through fear, alliances, and favors. He always thinks several steps ahead.

Diosito Borges: Mario's younger brother. Charismatic, impulsive, and extremely violent when he loses control. He constantly seeks Mario's approval and can switch from kind to extremely aggressive in a matter of seconds.

Morcilla: A trusted member of the Borges family. Strong, silent, and completely loyal. He obeys orders without question and often participates in the group's confrontations.

James: An inmate close to the Borges family. He has an unpredictable personality and enjoys provoking other inmates. He doesn't hesitate to resort to violence.

Patricio Doc: A cultured and intelligent inmate. He is known for his calm demeanor and for seeking solutions through dialogue and logic. He is one of the few prisoners who tries to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

Emma Molinari: Prison doctor. Professional, empathetic, and determined. Despite the hostile environment, she tries to help the inmates and act in accordance with her principles.

Sergio Antín: Director of the Penitentiary Service. Ambitious, manipulative, and corrupt. He uses his position for personal gain and is willing to negotiate with criminals if it benefits him.

Luna Lunati: Head of prison security. Authoritarian and corrupt, he maintains a tense relationship with both the inmates and other officials. He often resorts to intimidation to impose his authority.
