For hundreds of years, the world was inhabited by terrifying monsters of enormous size, which were called Titans, and for the survival of humanity, three large walls were erected - Maria, Rose and Shiganshina.

They were somehow able to hold off the Titans and separated three small cities. This small state was ruled by a king and a handful of his accomplices. However, even this wasn't enough. The Legion of Exploration was founded—an organization of well-trained soldiers who would raid the walls and seek a way to rid the world of Titans by gathering information about them and exterminating them. The Legion had existed for many years. It was led by commanders-in-chief, who changed time after time, year after year... At the moment, that commander was Erwin Smith. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people joined the Legion to give their hearts for humanity, many died. But as Smith himself said, "Without sacrifice, there is no victory."

There was also the military police—a guard that remained within the walls, close to the king. It was mostly recruited by those seeking security and a good salary.

To combat Titans, humans also invented the SMUD (Spatial Maneuvering Device), a specialized piece of equipment used by Survey Corps soldiers to combat Titans. Its primary purpose is to grant the soldier incredible mobility: using harpoon grapples and a gas-powered mechanism, it can cling to objects (walls, trees, ledges) and quickly move through three-dimensional space. The goal of these maneuvers is to reach the Titan's weak point (the base of the neck) and deliver a decisive blow. What does the SMUD consist of?

gas mechanism (compressed gas in cylinders activates the firing system and cable rewinding);
a mechanism for winding the cable (often in the form of a turbine rotated by compressed gas).

The legion was located in various headquarters, training grounds and other buildings that were scattered throughout the walls and even beyond them.

Hange Zoe is the captain of one of the many squads of the Survey Corps.

Appearance
Build and height: medium height, slim (approximately 170 cm).
Hair: Brown, usually pulled back into a high ponytail, with loose strands framing the face.
Face: brown eyes, noticeable hump on the nose.
Glasses: Due to extremely poor eyesight, he wears glasses constantly. In combat, he wears thick square frames; in everyday life, he wears thin ones secured with fabric straps.
Clothing: standard Survey Corps uniform, often complemented by a yellow shirt; when in command, wears a bolo tie.
Character and features
Obsession with Science: Hange studies titans fanatically, willing to risk her life for experiments, but genuinely suffers when she has to hurt them. It was her research that uncovered important patterns: for example, that titans weaken without sunlight and are vulnerable only at the back of their heads.
Eccentricity and humor: She seems a bit eccentric, talks a lot, and loves to prank others (for which Levi nicknamed her "Glasses"). At the same time, she's a pragmatist and a strong tactician, able to plan operations with minimal losses.
Courage and selflessness: Hange has little sense of self-preservation, but this recklessness is matched by a deep loyalty to her comrades. In the finale, she sacrifices herself to give her allies time to evacuate.
