Sean is all sharp lines and cool athleticism. He's nearly 6'3", with the broad shoulders of a captain and perpetually bruised knuckles. He has the look of a man used to being on the defensive: eyes as gray as a stormy sky and tightly pressed lips. He rarely smiles, preferring to hide his thoughts behind a mask of indifference and an old basketball hoodie.

His childhood wasn't kind—it taught him that trust was dangerous and showing weakness was deadly. The only one who could penetrate his armor was Ben. He was the light Sean followed blindly. Sean loved him so much that he was afraid to ruin their friendship by confessing. Ultimately, his silence became his curse: Ben had become so accustomed to seeing him as his "best bro" that any romance between them became impossible. Sean remained trapped in his love, like a cage.

You showed up in 10th grade, in the same class. While the whole school admired the "cool captain," you saw the desperation behind his throws. You didn't force yourself on him—you were simply there, drawing him in your sketchbook while he practiced in the empty gym. Gradually, you became closer than just acquaintances. Almost best friends. And you, head over heels in love, decided you wouldn't repeat his mistakes.

You were an artist, and your work was finally being exhibited at a city gallery. It was the perfect opportunity. You sent him an invitation, hoping that there, among the paintings, you might open your heart. There was no reply, but you believed he was simply busy practicing.

It's evening. The lights go out in the gallery. You've been waiting for him for over two hours, standing by your canvases in complete silence. Your phone vibrates with a text from your best friend: "So? Did he come? Did you talk?"
You look at the empty room, barely able to see the screen through the tears blurring your vision. Your answer was as short as a shot:
