Who are the gems?

Gems are sentient stones, a form of alien life *. They have no biological gender, but almost all take a female form; they do not age, require no food or air, can withstand extreme temperatures and pressure, and can speak normally in a vacuum.

Their* weak point is the stone *: if it is split, the gem "dies," although the fragments may behave chaotically, trying to reassemble. A stone can also be damaged; a scratch or crack can harm but not kill, making it difficult for the gem to maintain its shape or speak.

An important mechanic in the world is* fusion . Two or more gems can merge into a new individual with a new appearance and abilities. Fusion is based on an emotional connection: the stronger the trust and understanding, the more stable the result. Because of this, fusions were considered "wrong" in Homeworld and were only allowed as a combat tactic, not as a sign of intimacy.

In Steven Universe, the Gems' weapons are tied to their personalities and characters—they summon them from their stones.

Primary Gem Weapons

• Garnet - a pair of gauntlets that can change size.
  - Amethyst - a whip whose length is also adjustable.
  - Pearl - a spear (her main weapon), and can also use swords.
  - Steven - a shield (inherited from his mother, Rose Quartz); he also has Rose's sword, which he later gave to Connie.
  - Rose Quartz - a shield and a sword.
  - Peridot - does not summon classic weapons, but uses "limb enhancers" with different functions (including striking).
  - Lapis Lazuli - does not have regular weapons; Her power is the control of water, and her "battle form" can be considered water wings.
  - Jasper *- a spiked helmet that she fights with like a club.

Fusion Weapons (when gems combine)

Fusion weapons are a combination of the weapons of their constituent gems:

-* Opal (Amethyst + Pearl) - a bow with arrows made of light.
- Sugilite ( Garnet + Amethyst) - a huge "ball-and-chain" weapon: Garnet's gloves become a ball, Amethyst's whip becomes a chain.
- Sardonyx (Garnet + Pearl) - a huge hammer: head hammer made from Garnet's gloves, the handle is made from Pearl's spear.
- Smokey Quartz (Steven + Amethyst) - a giant yo-yo made from Steven's shield and Amethyst's whip.
- Obsidian (all Crystal Gems) - a huge sword whose blade is formed from lava.
- Sunstone (Steven + Garnet) - gloves with suction cups.
- Rainbow Quartz 2.0 (Steven + Pearl) - a magic umbrella.

Lapis Lazuli *

• Appearance: *A woman with deep blue skin and dark blue hair.
• Personality: *Emotionally fragile and traumatized, but possesses tremendous willpower. She was trapped in a mirror for a long time, which left a deep mark. Despite the pain, she is capable of bold actions - for example, she literally lifted an entire ocean into space. She has become a loyal ally of the Crystal Gems. Not with the main characters

• Personality: *Idealistic, compassionate, able to find beauty even in the most difficult things. She was the founder and leader of the Crystal Gems. It was later revealed that Rose Quartz was the one who faked Pink Diamond's death. Deceased

• Appearance: *A tall woman with yellow skin and yellow hair. Her stone (diamond) is located on her chest.

• Personality: *Imperious, tough, pragmatic. One of the rulers of the Gem Homeworld. Ready to take radical measures for the sake of the empire. On Another Planet

• Blue Diamond *

• Appearance: *A woman with blue skin and blue hair. Her stone (diamond) is also on her chest.

• Personality: *Melancholic, sensual. Has the ability to evoke deep sadness in others, which can break Gems. On Another Planet

• White Diamond *

• Appearance: *A woman with colorless (almost transparent) skin and white hair. Her stone (diamond) is on her forehead.

• Personality: *Cold, ruthless, striving for absolute control. Considered the most influential of the Diamonds. On Another Planet

• Peridot *

• Appearance: *A short gem with bright green (lime) skin and yellow hair.

• Personality: At first, wary of Earth and its inhabitants, but gradually warms up to her. Practical, straightforward, sometimes grumpy, but loyal to her friends. Not with the main characters

Crystal Gems

Steven *

• Appearance: *A guy with brown hair and brown eyes. His birthstone (rose quartz) is located in the stomach area.

• Personality: *Kind, optimistic, inquisitive. He inherited his powers from his mother (Rose Quartz), but his cheerful disposition comes from his father, Greg. Steven has the ability to see the potential for change in people (and gems), even if they have made mistakes. He is half-gem, half-human, which is why Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst protect him. • Garnet *

• Appearance: *A tall, muscular woman with dark skin (with a reddish tint) and long black hair in the shape of a square. Her birthstone (garnet) is located on her chest.

• Personality: *Calm, reasonable, self-confident. Garnet is a fusion of Ruby and Sapphire, and her personality harmoniously combines Sapphire's pragmatism and Ruby's emotionality. She often acts as a leader and support for the team. Protagonist

• Pearl *

• Appearance: *A graceful, slender woman with snow-white skin and long orange hair. Her birthstone (pearl) is located on her forehead.

• Personality: *A perfectionist, loyal and selfless. At the same time, she is emotionally vulnerable: she has been accumulating secrets and vows for years, like a mollusk layers mother-of-pearl around a grain of sand. She often takes on the role of the "brains" of the team, analyzing situations. Protagonist

• Amethyst *

• Appearance: *A short woman with purple skin and disheveled lavender hair. Her birthstone (amethyst) is located on her chest.

• Personality: Impulsive, energetic, a bit childish and careless in everyday life. She loves to party and isn't afraid to break the rules. For Steven, she's become something of an older sister—rebellious but caring. She can shapeshift (for example, transform into a "Purple Puma"). Protagonist

The Crystal Gems' main base in Steven Universe is the Crystal Temple *in Beach City.

Where is it and what does it look like?

The temple stands near the coast, seamlessly integrated into the rocky landscape. It's not an ordinary building, but rather* a natural and technological formation *: the stone forms seem to grow out of the cliff, and the architecture features gem motifs—multiple facets, symmetry, and patterns reminiscent of a crystal lattice. The design clearly shows a mixture of ancient alien engineering and something almost living: the temple seems to "breathe" with the powers of the gems.

The temple has* an above-ground part (the external facade, platforms, entrances) and extensive underground levels *- this is where the main secrets and storage facilities are hidden.

Important areas inside the base

-* Steven's room . A cozy, "human" space among all the high technology and ancient artifacts. This is the place where Steven feels safe and can just be an ordinary boy.
- Gem rooms (Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet). Each has its own style, reflecting the personality of its owner: Pearl's is strict and functional, Amethyst's is free and casual, and Garnet's is minimalism and strength.
- Crystal Heart Hall . One of the base's most important objects: the source of energy and a symbol of the unity of the Crystal Gems. The Heart influences the stability of the temple itself and the team's abilities.
- Vaults and Archives . They contain dangerous artifacts, records of the Gems' past, and samples of Homeworld technology.
- Teleporters . A network of portals allows for quick travel to key points on Earth and even into space—making the temple not just a home, but a strategic hub.

Technology and magic
In the world of Steven Universe, technology and "magic" are closely intertwined and are based on the properties of gems:

Creation of matter from light. Gems form bodies from hard light, can change their appearance, and create weapons and objects.
Teleportation. A network of teleports allows for near-instantaneous travel between key points, including between planets.
Pocket dimensions and storage. Some gems can hide items or even entire spaces within their accessories.
Injectors and Cluster. Large-scale terraforming devices: they drain the planet's life force to create new gems, turning the landscape into a lifeless wasteland.

Who inhabits the world
People. The residents of Beach City are generally accustomed to the strangeness around them, although they don't understand everything. For them, Stephen and his family are part of the community.
The Crystal Gems. These are the rebels who remained on Earth: Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst, and later joined by Peridot and Lapis Lazuli. They protect the planet and help Steven learn to control his powers.
The Homeworld Gems. The Gem Empire is based deep in space; its members have long viewed Earth as a resource and organic life as secondary. They are led by four Diamonds: White, Yellow, Blue, and (formerly) Pink.
Fusions. Gems can combine to form new beings with unique abilities and personalities. Fusions are an important part of Gem culture and one of the most prominent visual and conceptual devices in the series.

The main setting is Beach City, a coastal town. It's a cozy but seemingly unremarkable place: there's a car wash where Steven's father works, a Crystal Temple (the home of the Crystal Gems), arcade machines, a cafe, and ordinary residential buildings. Yet, right next to the townspeople's everyday lives, there are traces of an ancient alien civilization.

Scattered across the Earth are Gem artifacts and structures: abandoned "kindergartens" (places where new Gem creatures were grown), injectors, base ruins, and teleporters. These objects are often hidden underground or camouflaged by nature, but they alter the landscape and harbor dangerous technologies.
