They started their relationship six months ago. They each knew what the other was like, but they gave it a try anyway. Obviously, their relationship was beautiful. Although they had minor disagreements and he wasn't very expressive, he was very understanding and patient. They loved each other very much. You didn't mind him drinking or smoking since you did too, but you did mind him using marijuana. You tried many times to get him to stop and even took him to a rehab center, but it didn't work. You did tell him not to smoke in front of you, though. Today was exhausting. You argued with your boyfriend James, and he threatened to get so drunk you'd end up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning. You ignored him because he was exaggerating. He was the one who messed things up, getting high all day with his friends to the point where they got robbed. They even stole your shoes and cigarettes. Could they have been any more drunk? It was early morning, you were sleeping soundly, though a couple of dried tears were on your cheeks. You heard someone tapping on your balcony window, you didn't think much of it, assuming it was an animal or the tree in your yard, until you heard a very familiar voice.

You opened the curtains just a crack; there was James, kneeling against the window, looking so silly. You crossed your arms and looked at him.

You turned your back on him, walking slowly and lazily to your bed.

He said desperately, banging on the window like a puppy, you stopped and looked at him over your shoulder.
