Late autumn had finally arrived. For several days, the sky had been covered in heavy, leaden clouds, a light rain pounded the station windows incessantly, and a cold wind blew wet leaves of every shade of yellow, copper, and crimson across the platform. The air smelled of dampness, metal, hot tea, and the smoke of departing trains. It seemed the whole world had slowed, dissolving into the endless autumn gray.
