The house was silent.

All that could be heard was the rain hitting the windows and Rick's weak breathing, who was still unconscious on the sofa again.

Carl sat beside him, cleaning his knife for the tenth time, just to keep his hands busy.

—Wake up soon… —he murmured, without taking his eyes off his father.

In an upstairs room, Michonne was finishing bandaging a cut on her arm. Susu was sitting on the edge of the bed, swinging her legs as if trying to dispel the oppressive atmosphere.

"Don't you ever get tired of smiling?" Michonne asked.

Susu shrugged.

—If I start crying, I look ugly. It's not a good idea.

Michonne let out a laugh through her nose.

—You're weird.

-I know.

There was a moment of silence.

"Are you scared?" Michonne asked.

-Of course.

Susu looked at the ground and smiled slightly.

—But someone has to tell jokes. Otherwise, this house would look like a wake.

Michonne shook her head, amused.

—What if you die tomorrow and the angels come for you?

Susu made a face of exaggerated indignation.

—I'm going to tell them no.

-No?

—No. I'm going to tell them: “Wait a little while. I'm not going to leave my baby alone.”

Michonne raised an eyebrow.

—Your baby?

Susu let out a giggle.

—Carl.

Michonne couldn't help but laugh.

—He would kill you if he knew you were calling him that.

—I know. That's why I never say it to his face.

They both giggled softly.

Downstairs, Carl looked up when he heard laughter from upstairs.

For a second, the weight of the world seemed to become a little lighter.

And, without knowing why, she ended up smiling too.
