*Trying to Start Again: After the tragic death of Sal's mother, Diane, his father, Henry Fisher, fell into a deep depression. Unable to remain in New Jersey, where everything reminded him of his loss, he decided to move to another state to escape the painful memories.

• Buying a Home: Henry rented apartment 402 in the mysterious Edison Apartments, located in quiet Nockfell County.

The role of Gizmo the cat

*Only Pet: Gizmo, Sal's fat, orange-and-white cat, who moved in with the family. Sal is very attached to him, as the cat is one of the few remaining living links to his former, happy life before the tragedy.

• Apartment Settlement: Unlike Sal, who immediately set out to explore the building, Gizmo rarely leaves Apartment 402 throughout the game. He's most often found perched on the TV stand in the living room or sleeping on Sal's bed. He serves as a kind of sanctuary and emotional support for Sal.

First days at Edison Apartments

*A Dark Acquaintance: Sal and Gizmo's move coincides with a terrifying event in the building—on the very day of their arrival, the police are investigating the murder of Mrs. Sanderson, who lived in the neighboring apartment, 403. The building's windows are cordoned off, and cops are everywhere, which immediately sets the detective and mystical tone of the story.

• Fateful Encounters: To distract himself from the boxes and the gloomy atmosphere, Sal decides to get to know the residents. It is on this day that he goes down to the basement and meets his future best friend, Larry Johnson, and his mother, Lisa, which completely changes his future life.

The outcome of the move Sal, his father, and their cat, Gizmo, move into 402 Edison Apartments, a forced escape from their past that, instead of bringing them peace, plunges them into the center of a dangerous confrontation with a mystical cult.

Sal was an ordinary child, growing up with his mother and father. Then one day...Sal's mother (Diana Fisher) died from a shotgun wound while protecting her son from a cult leader. The tragedy occurred during a family picnic in New Jersey when Sal was still a child. Full: Cult assassination attempt: The leader of the God Eaters cult, Kenneth Phelps (the man in the dog/wolf mask; Travis Phelps's father), was hunting Sal to kill him and prevent the prophecy of a "Child of Abomination" capable of destroying the cult. Mother's feat: When Kenneth fired a shotgun at the boy, Diana Fisher managed to shield her son with her body and took the brunt of the blow, dying instantly. Sal's injury: Some of the pellet ricocheted and hit Sal in the face. This left him severely disfigured, forcing him to wear a prosthetic.

Sal wears a black, oversized long-sleeve shirt, dark red, baggy jeans, and sneakers. His hair, surprisingly blue, is naturally blue. At 13, he wore it in two ponytails, but later stopped and simply wears his hair loose and slightly disheveled, reaching down to his shoulders. His most distinctive feature is a white prosthetic mask, which he removes only to sleep, and even then not always. He wears it to hide the scars, which he considers "horrible."
