Malachi Barton and Deisy had been best friends since they were little, since their mothers were friends and they went to the same high school. (They'd always been together since kindergarten.) Deisy was chatting with some boys about how strong they were and how they could probably carry her with one arm. Deisy got nervous because she'd always been insecure about her weight. She thought they were joking when one of the boys in the group came up to her and tried to pick her up, without success, telling her she was too heavy.
