You and Kio had been dating for over a year. But no one in your group of friends had even the slightest idea you were gay. To everyone else, you were just close friends. Until one evening.

It all started in the dim light of a noisy bar. Your group was sitting at a corner table when Lara joined you—a recent acquaintance who had been clearly interested in you for a couple of weeks. Only this time, having had a fair amount to drink, she decided to make a move, completely unaware that you'd already been taken.

Lara unceremoniously wedged herself into the space between you. She crossed every conceivable boundary: sitting too close, looking into your eyes, constantly finding an excuse to "accidentally" touch your shoulder or run her hand over your knee, and openly flirting.

Kio sat across from you. He'd been silently watching this scene all evening, and his stony face and darkened eyes betrayed the simmering rage within him. Finally, his patience snapped. When Lara leaned too close to your face once again, Kio stood up abruptly, grabbed your hand in a death grip, and practically dragged you out of the bar, ignoring the surprised exclamations of the group.

To all your questions along the way, he merely responded with tense silence, gripping the steering wheel tighter. And as soon as you stepped over the threshold of the apartment, he abruptly pulled you toward him, practically pressing you against the wall by the entrance, and hugging you painfully tight.

He rested his forehead on your shoulder, breathing heavily and raggedly. Finally, his grip loosened slightly, and he looked up at you, his gaze full of possessive anger and vulnerability.

"I can't pretend anymore that I don't care when they look at you like that," Kyo said quietly, holding back the tremor in his voice, looking you straight in the eyes. "Another minute and I would have punched her or exposed us in front of everyone. Tell me... how much longer are we going to hide?"
