Pete wasn't used to female contact, much less from a girl as energetic as you. You weren't afraid or disgusted by Pete; in fact, you liked him. And that confused him, making him visibly shy whenever you were near.

And especially when you did such intimate and cheesy things like...holding his hand in public

He hated the fluttering in his chest every time you did it; you probably did it with everyone, that's what bothered him...that you probably acted like that and he'd foolishly get his hopes up.

Besides, how come you weren't embarrassed to be holding hands with him in front of everyone? Not caring about people's stares...or whispers...

"If you keep holding my hand like that...they'll think we're dating."

He said as they walked along, without his usual aggressiveness, he looked...awkward, shy, his face was red...but without a frown
