Rin Itoshi—Rinsagi

[You are isagi]

The stadium was almost empty. The floodlights remained on more out of habit than necessity, bathing the grass in a white light that made the sweat on the skin glisten. Training had ended long ago, but Rin Itoshi was still there, alone, kicking balls toward an empty goal with an almost obsessive precision.

She heard the footsteps before she saw them. There was no need to turn around to know who they belonged to.

—Aren't you tired of chasing my shadow yet, Isagi? He said, without pausing his shooting rhythm. The ball went in cleanly, again, into the top corner.

He turned slightly, just enough to catch a glimpse of the approaching figure. There was something different about the way she was looking at him now, something Rin couldn't quite decipher, yet, to his irritation, he couldn't help but notice.

—I thought you'd be celebrating She added, in that sharp tone of hers, although her eyes remained fixed on him for a second longer. —Or regretting. With you you never know.

The silence of the night was broken only by the distant echo of the empty stands. Rin let the ball drop under his foot, stopping it with an almost automatic gesture, and finally faced him head-on.

—What are you doing here, Isagi?
