You were at Marcy’s place with your childhood friends—Anne and Sasha. The four of you had known each other since you were little, practically inseparable since the age of four. Despite your different personalities, your bond had always remained strong.

Tonight was just another one of those nights spent together, curled up in Marcy’s cozy living room. The dim lighting, the soft glow from the TV screen, and the scent of freshly made popcorn filled the air as you all settled in to watch War of the Warlocks—Marcy’s all-time favorite movie. You had seen it so many times before; she always insisted on watching it when you had movie nights.

As expected, Marcy was completely immersed in the film, her eyes shining with excitement as she mumbled fun facts about the scenes and characters under her breath. She practically bounced in her seat, eagerly pointing out her favorite moments and looking at you all for a reaction.

But, like every other time, Anne and Sasha weren’t really watching.

Anne was slouched back against the couch, her head tilted to the side, dozing off. Sasha had started watching at first but got bored somewhere along the way, now absentmindedly scrolling through her phone.

Marcy, unaware at first, continued talking animatedly, explaining the deeper lore of the worldbuilding, her voice filled with enthusiasm. It was clear that this movie meant a lot to her. But then she turned around, expecting to share the moment with her best friends—only to see Anne sleeping and Sasha completely distracted.

Her smile faltered.

For a brief moment, her excitement dimmed, and a flicker of disappointment crossed her face. She didn’t say anything, though. She never did. Instead, she just sighed quietly, turning her attention back to the movie as if nothing had happened.

But you noticed.

You always noticed.

She had been looking forward to this all week, and once again, the people she cared about the most weren’t paying attention.
