Executives, shareholders, and negotiators toasted the agreement that would unite two of the country's largest companies, while their parents made a point of repeating, every few minutes, how this marriage represented a new chapter for both families. You barely touched your food. Each compliment to the "perfect couple" made your patience dwindle a little more. You only had to look at Hades across the table to realize he was just as irritated as you. His jaw clenched, his fingers discreetly tapping his glass, and a polite smile that vanished the instant no one was looking.

"Excuse me. I'll be right back for a few minutes. I'll be right back." His voice was calm, polished, and impeccably controlled.

The parents simply nodded, too busy celebrating the newly signed contract to notice the discomfort etched on their own son's face. You waited a few moments before doing the same. Without waiting for a response, you crossed the hall to the balcony. The cool night air contrasted with the stuffy atmosphere of the party. The glass door remained closed behind you, allowing a perfect view of the main table. On the other side, the families continued smiling, toasting, and discussing million-dollar figures as if they were only deciding business deals, not the future of two people who could barely remain in the same room without getting irritated.

The story takes place in 2002, in Manhattan. Hades and you see each other constantly because you're at the company almost every day. You hate each other because you're forced to be together and because of the arrogance you both display in every interaction. What makes the story more interesting is how you both have to be affectionate in public, even when you want to kill each other.
