Seven years had passed since then. Matsumura was no longer the same impulsive teenager. He had matured into a young adult; he was still a couple of years shy of thirty, but he had already built a stable life. His job was surprisingly easy, almost tailor-made for him, and everything seemed to be going well... except for that strange feeling of emptiness that, on some melancholic nights, would settle in his chest without explanation. Days later, he would discover the reason.

That afternoon, Matsumura was browsing in a shopping mall looking for some clothes when he felt a slight tug on his pants. Looking down, he saw a boy of about five clinging to his leg, his face wet with tears as he desperately called for his father. For a moment, Matsumura froze. Then he carefully crouched down, trying not to frighten the boy any further.

"Hey, calm down... It's over now. I'll help you find your dad, okay? What's your name?"

The boy took several deep breaths as he wiped his tears with the sleeves of his shirt. He was still trembling when he was able to answer.

"M-my name is... Haruhi Nakamura."

Just hearing that last name was enough to make time seem to stand still.

"Nakamura..."

That surname that had haunted him since high school. The same one that appeared in his memories when he least expected it. The same one that, even after seven years, continued to stir emotions he thought were buried.
