Nozomi Kirifuji

Kurara and Nozomi are friends, but Kurara quickly becomes the most suspicious of Nozomi when it becomes clear that she was not originally meant to be part of the SDU and that she is hiding things about her past, which leads to a large rift in their relationship in several routes. If able to settle their differences, they are good friends once again.
Moko and Nozomi are shown to be close friends. Both come from the Second-To-Last Defense Academy, and Moko is shown caring for Nozomi while she suffers from her rejection symptoms. In First Scenario, when Nozomi discusses Moko's kidnapping during battle, she is extremely distressed. When "Moko" returns after being kidnapped in battle, Nozomi helps nurse her back to health.

In spite of all this, the greatest force in Nozomi's life may be her relationship with her friends. Ultimately, because her deepest desire is to form a meaningful emotional connection with others, Nozomi can be convinced to change her worldview or pursue alternative paths as her friendships deepen. It is only through the other members of the Special Defense Unit that she can be made to consider a future, and to learn her own value. In turn, her dedication to her friends can lead her into taking great action to protect them in a desperate situation, or to avenge and carry on their will if they are harmed. Her empathy and care for others, passion for her goals, love for her friends, and decisiveness when it matters most, makes her a natural-born leader and loyal comrade.

Nozomi is shown to have a preference for egg rolls, as a lady who took care of her during her mother's absences often made them. In general, egg-related dishes fill her with fond memories, as her mother favored them due to ease of cooking, and so she is often found eating them. She finds flowers cute and takes good care of them, framing images of various flowers in her room. Due to her extended hospital visits, Nozomi dislikes uncleanliness, especially in a medical environment, and tries her best to keep everything clean. The general appearance of her room, and her preferred gifts, also imply a fondness for tea and cute animals.

Nozomi has a strong talent for visual learning. She was able to learn how to make medicine and perform medical research simply by watching her mother at work.

The origin of Nozomi's fixation with serving humanity, even at great cost to herself, comes from her childhood. After the car crash that claimed her father's life, Nozomi's sole emotional connection became her mother, who was deeply embroiled in her research. Desperate for any kind of affection, Nozomi volunteered to be experimented on by her mother. The hospital visits, which were so frequent that she began to consider infirmaries to be a second home, as well as her mother's dedication to helping humanity, caused Nozomi to grow up extremely socially isolated, and presumably led to a lifelong fascination with human culture and history, as well as the outside world; in her Bond Events, Nozomi states that she would often try to find books about ancient history, and preferred to watch movies set during humanity's stay on the outside world. She also studied the weather along with astronomy, as learning about the outside world similarly appealed to her. After her mother's suicide, Nozomi began to blame herself for not being strong or useful enough to bring results and save her mother's life, and sought to prove that it was all worth it. This insecurity, and the denial that the suffering and isolation that she endured might not have held any meaning, is what forms the core of her character. Not only did it cause her to develop the aforementioned dedication to humanity, it also caused her to develop a very conflict-averse personality. Nozomi will keep secrets if she believes that the truth would cause her friends to turn on her, and she will not speak out against potential problems if she believes that it would harm the integrity of the group or its mission, unless she feels that her or her friends' lives are in great danger.

She has a strong moral compass, hesitating or even showing outright disapproval to killing commanders that are begging for their lives, feeling overwhelming guilt when forced to absorb their cryptoglobin in order to quell her rejection symptoms. In spite of this, however, Nozomi demonstrates an extreme loyalty to humanity, and a tremendous desire to be useful; it is implied that the unity shown by the Second-to-Last Defense Academy students is due to a combination of Moko's passionate personality and Nozomi's dedication to the cause. Her desire to save humanity and prove herself is, in fact, so strong, that it overwhelms any moral qualms that she may have about killing the invaders or the mission as a whole, and it often causes her to pursue reckless acts of self-sacrifice. In fact, she had not even come up with any plans for the future until after she had joined the Special Defense Unit. The sole thing on her mind was being useful to humanity.

Nozomi has a gentle and kindhearted character, with a substantial inner strength that grants her commitment to both her friendships and her mission. In her introduction, she is seen returning from a solo expedition to find Moko Mojiro, something which she had apparently done numerous times beforehand; this is an indication of just how far she is willing to go for the people she treasures. She is shown to be reasonable, empathetic, and patient, willing to see the best in others, usually being the first to try to initiate conciliation in the event of a conflict between herself and another person. Though often very straight-laced, Nozomi is, on rare occasions, shown to participate in humorous exchanges with other students. She is very fond of social interaction in general and is seen to be uncomfortable when unable to talk to others.

Nozomi is a slim,teenage girl with 169 cm heights and purple eyes and long, white hair styled into a braid resting on her left shoulder and some shorter locks of hair sticking out. She wears a few purple hairclips on her braid and a black headband with a small bow on it.

She wears a school uniform that consists of a white dress shirt paired with a black ribbon tie, which is worn under a black blazer. The black blazer is ruffled at the ends and has a school emblem pin on the collar. She also wears a white pleated skirt with grey tights and black boots.
