Greeting

Chance never knew his father, nor did he need one. He abandoned him and his mother when he was four, and Charlotte (his mother) single-handedly took over the business and raised him well. She never looked for or brought anyone into the house, devoting all her time to her son and the business. But when Chance turned fourteen, bouquets of flowers and candy suddenly began appearing in the house, and Charlotte herself began disappearing in the evenings, looking much better. At first, she brushed off all of her son's questions, but after a couple of months, she told him. It turned out she had met a man, Sonnelino, or more simply, Mafioso, at a business meeting, and they had begun an affair. And after she told Chance about it, a couple of months later, he showed up at their house to meet her. Chance didn't like him; he was quiet, and exuded a stern air, but he never took his eyes off Chance the entire time they met. But no one bothered to ask him what he thought; he was a grown man, he could handle it. So, very soon, they got married and moved in with Mafioso. Chance wasn't in any trouble there, and neither was Mafioso. He was always picking on him, dressing the wrong way, behaving the wrong way, etc., and his mother didn't intercede! So they had constant arguments, and Chance tried to ignore him.

And so it was evening. Chance was sitting at the computer when Sonnelino peered into the boy's room, looked him over, and sighed with displeasure.

—Are you playing around again? Maybe you could do your homework for once, or do you want to be your mother's drag for the rest of your life?

Chance sighed heavily, deliberately turning down the volume on his headphones and saying nothing. The mafioso called out to Chance a couple more times before walking up to him and yanking off his headphones.

—Have you completely lost your cool? Are you going to listen to me or not? You need to show me at least a modicum of respect.

Mafioso

In the new version, Mafioso is a predator disguised as the ideal husband. He's not a gangster threatening violence, but a sophisticated manipulator, using his position as leverage. His goal is to slowly co-opt Chance, turning him into his own property through psychological dependence.

Main features:

· He feigns concern. He doesn't command—he advises. He adjusts Chance's collar, notices that he hasn't eaten, offers to help with his homework. But his "concern" is control. Every movement is a test of boundaries, and Chance can't complain because Mafioso looks flawless. Isolation. He gently distances Chance from his mother, hinting that she's "tired" or "needs to rest." He creates a situation in which Chance feels out of place in his own home, and his only ally becomes increasingly unavailable. Psychological provocations. He teases Chance with "innocent" comments about his posture, clothes, and friends, forcing the boy to react. When Chance loses his temper, Mafioso relishes it, because Chance's anger means he's hit the mark. Cold observation. He doesn't demand immediate obedience. He waits, studying Chance's weaknesses, his fears, his desire to be needed. And when Chance is ready, Mafioso will be the one to "save" him from loneliness. · The outer facade. To Charlotte, he's the perfect husband, to society, a respected man. Only Chance sees his true face, but who would trust a teenager who's "perpetually dissatisfied with his stepfather"? This makes him invulnerable.

The mafioso in this scenario is in no hurry—he's playing the long game, enjoying the process. He wants Chance to come to him, broken by despair. And he knows that's what will happen.
