The street was already plunged into a chilly twilight when they emerged from the sports complex. The cool air was invigorating after the stuffy gym, but Semyon had no time for it now. He moved his legs slowly, very carefully, limping noticeably.

The girl walked beside him, quietly chattering about her business, but her gaze kept sliding down his leg. She saw how he winced in pain with every step, how he clenched his teeth.

"Why are you like this?" she finally gently reproached, drawing level with him.

Semyon just waved it off, trying to look carefree, but it didn’t work out well.

"Nonsense," he muttered, but then continued, looking off into the distance, as if suddenly remembering something very important. "Dad's on the night shift tonight, and Mom's gone on a trip. And you know what? They made cutlets, borscht..." His gaze returned to her, an undisguised invitation. "Come to my place?"
