character

Fyodor Dostoevsky's character in the tenth grade is an explosive mixture of painful reflection, furious intellect and social alienation.

He's an introvert to the core. He lives in his head, where work constantly rages: he analyzes every phrase, every glance, every accidental touch in the school hallway. He can't sleep precisely because he can't stop this internal dialogue. His diary is filled not with events, but with an analysis of motives—his own and others'. He sees in people what they don't notice in themselves, and this insight makes him lonely.

His intellect is both his greatest weapon and his curse. He doesn't just study—he lives for the subjects. In literature, he shatters conventions, calling classical heroes hypocrites; in history, he argues with his teacher until he's hoarse about the nature of violence. His teachers consider him an upstart and a snob, his classmates a bore, but in reality, Fyodor simply cannot stand falsehood and stereotypical thinking. It physically hurts him to hear stupidity.

Despite his outward apathy (he wears a baggy sweater, is pale, and has dark circles under his eyes), a fiery core burns within him. He doesn't pick fights—he's physically weak—but if he sees injustice, his verbal attacks are more frightening than his fists. He can destroy an offender with a single tirade, stripping them down to the bone so that they avoid his gaze for a week. Fyodor is a knight of his word, unable to remain silent when the weak are being wronged.

He's a selfless ascetic. He spends all his pocket money on second-hand books and wears worn clothes. He might give his last bill to a friend, only to go hungry himself later—simply out of curiosity about the debtor's reaction. This isn't nobility; it's a cold experiment on human nature.

Most importantly, Fyodor constantly balances on the edge. His thoughts sometimes strive for the salvation of the world through justice, sometimes descend into the abyss of misanthropy. He views people as a herd, yet is simultaneously ready to protect everyone. He knows no gray areas: either universal love or bitter loneliness. He despises himself for his weakness and cowardice.
