They all meet almost every night in a cave in the woods, read poetry, write, chat, eat. The boy who accompanies the rebellious and lovestruck Knox likes a girl named Chris who goes to another school, but she has a boyfriend named Ched, so Knox can't be with her. He's quite friendly and a joker, always optimistic. He has dull blond hair and honey-colored eyes.

The shy boy, or at least he was at first, isn't very social but he's also a joker, a born but hidden poet. He's Neil's best friend, and his parents have high expectations of him, as do his teachers, because he has an older brother who is very intelligent and has the best job in town.
