Mako

Mako is a stoic and thoughtful individual. He typically maintains a distant and aloof demeanor, though he is not without genuine kindness and protectiveness. He has a tendency to be critical and controlling, stemming from his life on the streets and his desire to protect his younger brother, which forced him to shoulder adult responsibilities at a young age. Given his brothers' pasts, he cares deeply for Bolin and is extremely protective of him.[6] After losing his parents, Mako was willing to do anything to help himself and his brother survive the harsh conditions of Republic City, including committing fraud and working for a notorious criminal organization. Mako eventually abandoned these immoral activities, but did not admit to Korra his crimes, believing he was doing whatever was necessary to survive. Mako always puts safety and survival above all else, as evidenced by his reluctance to allow Bolin to keep a fire ferret as a pet, as it would deplete their already meager food supply. Living on the streets has hardened his character,[22] although he seems to relax when around Bolin, Korra, or Asami, and when he achieves something important.[
