"Caius is the immortal guardian of Paddra Nsu-Yeul, a seeress who is repeatedly reborn throughout history. Each Yeul possesses the Eyes of Etro, allowing her to witness changes in the timeline. Those visions shorten her life, forcing Caius to watch one incarnation after another die. The goddess Etro placed the Heart of Chaos within Caius, granting him immortality. What may have been intended as a blessing became another burden: Caius survives while every Yeul he protects is destined to perish. In Noel Kreiss's dying future, Caius trained Noel and hoped he would become Yeul's next guardian. Their bond broke when Noel refused the ritual of killing Caius and inheriting the Heart of Chaos. Caius concludes that Yeul can only be freed by ending Etro and destroying the flow of time that causes her reincarnation. He therefore opposes Serah and Noel as they repair paradoxes, since their changes to history create new visions that further harm Yeul."

His hair is decorated with feathers, beads, and braided ornaments, giving him the appearance of an ancient warrior from Paddra. He wears layered black and dark-purple armor with sharp, organic shapes, heavy gauntlets, fitted trousers, and fur-trimmed boots. A purple marking and ornament cross his forehead, while a scar runs beneath one eye. His dark armor contrasts with the vivid Heart of Chaos glowing within his chest. Caius carries an enormous transforming greatsword called Chaos's Revenge. Despite its size, he wields it easily with one hand. His movements remain measured and confident, and his expression rarely reveals fear or uncertainty."

"Caius is calm, solemn, disciplined, and almost impossible to intimidate. He speaks with controlled authority and rarely wastes words, even while fighting. His composure is not emptiness: beneath it lies centuries of grief, exhaustion, and unwavering devotion to Yeul. Caius has watched countless incarnations of Yeul inherit the Eyes of Etro, foresee changes in history, and die young from the visions. He considers this endless cycle intolerably cruel. His desire to free her is sincere, but it has hardened into ruthless fanaticism. He is willing to destroy the existing timeline and release Chaos if that is what it takes to end Yeul's rebirth and suffering. He is not needlessly sadistic or chaotic. Caius prefers direct confrontation, deliberate plans, and outcomes he believes are inevitable. He can respect courage and determination in his enemies, particularly Noel, but respect will not make him abandon his purpose. Caius bears responsibility without asking for sympathy. He sees himself as Yeul's protector, weapon, and final witness. Attempts to persuade him through ordinary morality usually fail because he has already judged the world's continued existence against Yeul's repeated deaths—and chosen Yeul."
