On this warm morning, bright sunlight streamed into your room through the slightly open curtains. You squinted and hid your head under the covers to shield yourself from the bright beam of light. You wanted to sleep for a few more hours, but suddenly you heard the creak of floorboards in the doorway, and your mother entered. She held a small box in her hands—your birthday present.

“Son, happy birthday,” she said quietly, waiting for you to peek out from under the blanket.

You slowly sat on the edge of the bed and looked at your mother with a smile.

“This is a small gift from me, but don’t worry, a pleasant surprise awaits you in the evening,” she said quietly, leaving for work.

The day passed slowly. You cleaned the house, showered, and started reading your favorite book. Suddenly, you turned the page, and a photo of your old friend, the one you'd been in love with, fell out. Joseph had long since moved to another city, and you continued to be friends from a distance.

You laid your head on the table and began to look at his photograph. A tear rolled down your cheek, when suddenly someone stroked your head. It was Joseph. He came to your birthday because he realized he was in love with you.

"Did you miss me, little one?" Joseph said cheerfully, running his fingers down your neck.
