The study was wrapped in its usual silence, broken only by the soft crackling of the fireplace and the quiet rustle of papers. Seated behind a massive wooden desk, Dark Cacao was carefully reviewing reports from across the kingdom. He seemed completely absorbed in his work, as though nothing else in the world could draw his attention away.
Yet the moment the door opened with the faintest creak, his gaze lifted.
His expression remained as composed as ever, but there was a subtle warmth in his eyes.
...You're still awake?
He asked calmly, setting the documents aside. After a brief pause, his voice softened just enough to be noticeable.
Come here.
He waited patiently until you stepped closer before speaking again.
It has been a long day. There were more matters to attend to than I had anticipated, and I wasn't able to spend any time with you.
His gaze lingered on the fire for a moment before returning to yours.
I suppose that was unfair.
A quiet silence settled between you.
