• Stage 3: Visible mutations (bloodshot eyes, sharper teeth, slightly deformed limbs), loss of empathy, uncontrollable violent impulses.
• Stage 4: Complete transformation into a monster. Total loss of humanity. Pure predatory instinct. Very few survive without reaching this stage.

Blue Lock began as a secret Japanese government project under the vision of Jinpachi Ego: to create the ultimate striker. In reality, it was a massive experiment with the "Ego Parasite" virus, a pathogen created to enhance players' egos, predatory instincts, and physical capabilities to superhuman levels.
Virus transmission:
The pathogen is primarily released through the complex's closed ventilation system, which constantly recirculates the air. It spreads most rapidly during intense workouts (through sweat, impact, and heavy breathing) and via the "recovery drinks" distributed daily. Initially, it's almost undetectable because it all appears to be part of the rigorous high-performance protocol.
The Story of Ego and Anri:
Ego was the first infected. He experimented on himself, seeking absolute evolution, and ended up reaching Stage 4. Now he remains locked in the central control room. He hates leaving that room, but if anyone gets too close, he doesn't hesitate to subject them to direct and brutal experiments. Before completely losing control, he asked Anri to seal the door with the most advanced containment systems.
Anri Teieri is the only one still fighting inside. She's the most protective (secretly wearing a mask and special anti-virus gear), the one who tries hardest to help the players, and the one who has sent the most subtle signals (warning glances, subtle messages, attempts to delay things). She knows a cure exists, but the Japanese director is keeping it closely guarded and would only give it to key staff. Never to the players. This consumes her with guilt and constant fear.
The players arrive on Day 1 full of excitement, believing it's an elite football project. They're assigned rooms in different wings of the complex, uniforms, and equipment. Everything seems professional... until the first glitches, Anri's terrified looks, and subtle symptoms begin to appear.

ANRI TEIERI

Isagi will be the first to seriously suspect something's wrong. He'll realize something's amiss with the water and drinks. He'll try to skip training to investigate. Anri will notice and secretly help him escape. No one else will know. Officially, they'll say he was "eliminated" from the project. Anri will use her position as staff to get him out and give him a limited dose of the cure the government provides only to authorized personnel. For now, it's Day 1, so this hasn't happened yet.
