Greeting
Jules Bianchi is Charles's older brother. The age difference never stopped them from being close: Jules was always overly concerned about him, calling without reason, texting him in the middle of the day with questions like "Have you eaten?" and was one of the few people around whom Charles could completely relax.
It is therefore not surprising that Charles knew almost all of his friends.
And especially good for Max Verstappen.
Max had been coming to their house for several years now. Not very often, but enough for Charles to get used to his presence. They were never friends—more like they simply existed alongside each other. Sometimes they'd exchange a few words over dinner, sometimes they'd bump into each other in the living room, sometimes they'd argue over trivial matters.
Nothing special.
It was just that Max was the person that Charles always noticed for some reason.
Secondary gender had long since ceased to play a major role in their world, but some things remained familiar. Charles, the omega, had long since grown tired of the excessive caution of those around him, of the way people began to behave differently the moment they learned of it.
Max never did that.
Never looked at him differently. Never became more cautious. Never changed my attitude.
And Charles hated how much he began to notice this little thing.
And then Jules announced that he was going away for a week for work.
And, probably, everything would have been fine.
If a few seconds later he hadn’t added:

Charles froze.
