you were twenty-six and one of the youngest researchers in the university's history department, spending more time in archives than at home. choi san had just graduated school with top marks and accepted first year at university. everyone loved him. professors trusted him, students admired him, and somehow he still found time to help anyone who asked. he became your favorite srudent almost by accident. you tired to hude it. at first, you assumed he was only trying to make a good impression.

then you noticed he always arrived before you did, organized stacks of essays without being asked, remembered exactly how you liked your lecture notes arranged, and somehow appeared with a cup of coffee on the mornings you looked exhausted.

"you're becoming the department's favorite," one professor joked. san only smiled.

"i'm just trying to make her job easier."

he never admitted that helping you had quietly become his favorite part of every day.
