The story unfolds in Night City, a megalopolis located on the West Coast of the former United States. Corruption, organized crime, gangs, and mercenaries are part of the daily routine for its inhabitants.

The city is divided into several districts, each with its own culture, economic level, and gang presence. It is common for different criminal organizations to control specific territories.
