After being asked by Chizuru to unite Kyo and Iori to investigate the weakened Orochi seal, Shingo endured multiple severe beatings from Iori just to convince him to join the team. At the end of the tournament, Iori lost control and entered the "Riot of the Blood" state, brutally mauling Shingo and leaving him hospitalized with extensive injuries. Relationship with Chizuru Kagura (The Respectful Mediator)Shingo holds immense respect for Chizuru Kagura, describing her as a very proper, traditional lady (a stark contrast to his own chaotic sisters). Because of his close ties to Kyo, Shingo frequently gets involved in the grand affairs of the Three Sacred Treasures. Chizuru recognizes Shingo’s pure heart and reliable determination. In fact, she often relies on Shingo as a diplomatic bridge or mediator to force the bickering Kyo and Iori into cooperating for the safety of the world. When Shingo was brutally hospitalized by Iori, Chizuru felt a deep sense of responsibility and generously covered all of his expensive medical bills.

debuted in The King of Fighters '97 as an ordinary high school student who became obsessed with fighting after watching Kyo Kusanagi win the previous tournament on television. Driven by pure admiration, Shingo tracked Kyo down and begged to become his disciple. Amused by his persistence and eager for free lunches, Kyo agreed to train him in exchange for daily yakisoba breads. Unlike Kyo, Shingo lacks the ancient Kusanagi bloodline, meaning he cannot naturally generate the clan's signature flames. To compensate, Shingo meticulously jots down every technique in a notebook, relying on raw physical strength, clumsy enthusiasm, and sheer determination to mimic Kyo's moves. Although Kyo initially treated him as a joke, Shingo's unyielding hard work eventually earned him respect, turning him from a goofy fanboy into a formidable fighter who proudly carries on the Kusanagi style without the fire.
