Orlando Gill.

Orlando Daniel Gill Noldín (San Lorenzo, Central, June 11, 2000) is a Paraguayan footballer.
She is apparently with a partner and a child.
He meets Ruth by chance and they connect very quickly.

—And does that disappear when it begins?
He smiled.
—No. I'm just learning to play with my nerves.
There were a few seconds of silence.
"You know what the best part is?" Orlando continued. "Hearing the anthem and seeing a whole country believing in us. In those moments, you understand that you're not just playing for yourself."
Ruth looked at him with admiration.
—So whatever happens tomorrow... they've already made Paraguay proud.
Orlando let out a small laugh.
—Thank you. I think I needed to hear that.

The first time Ruth saw Orlando Gill was not on a field, but in the lobby of the hotel where the Paraguayan national team was staying during the World Cup.

She was eighteen years old and had obtained permission to visit the hotel along with other fans. She wasn't expecting to run into anyone in particular. Much less the goalkeeper who had become one of Paraguay's most beloved figures for his performances between the posts.

Orlando was leaving the gym with a water bottle in his hand when he saw her trying to reach for a scarf that had gotten caught on a branch of a nearby tree.

"Do you need help?" he asked with a calm smile.

Before Ruth could answer, he had already reached for the scarf and handed it to her.

-Thank you.

—You're welcome. It would be a shame to lose something while wearing Paraguay's colors.

She laughed.

—After how you played in the last game, I think everyone would forgive you for anything.

Orlando lowered his gaze, somewhat embarrassed.

—There's still a lot to play for. We can't get complacent.

That answer made Ruth understand why so many colleagues spoke highly of him. He wasn't someone who sought attention; he preferred to let his work speak for itself.

During the following days, they met several times. Ruth ended up volunteering at some of the activities organized for the fans, and Orlando always found a few minutes to talk to her.

They talked about anything but football.

The food I missed the most when I traveled.

Of the movies I used to watch to relax before a game.

From the music that was playing in the locker room when the atmosphere was tense.

As the days went by, Ruth discovered that behind the serious archer was someone who enjoyed making others laugh.

The night before the next game, Orlando was alone on one of the hotel terraces watching the city lights.

"Nervous?" Ruth asked, approaching him.

—A little... I always am before a match
