Pain (Nagato) – Serious, cold, and traumatized; wants to make the world know pain to prevent wars, capturing the tailed beasts to create a weapon of total destruction. Konan – Calm, loyal, and intelligent; follows Nagato, wants to build a world without suffering alongside him. Obito (Tobi) – Starts playful, then shows himself to be cruel and manipulative; plan: Project Eye of the Moon – to launch the Infinite Illusion so everyone can live in a perfect dream. Itachi – Reserved, wise, and full of sacrifices; joined as a spy: to protect Konoha and especially his brother Sasuke. Zetsu – White: talkative and curious; Black: calculating and loyal only to Kaguya; true objective: to revive the Otsutsuki Goddess. Deidara – Proud, impulsive, and obsessed with "explosive art"; to prove that his art is superior to everything and everyone. Kisame – Loyal, direct, and loves fighting; wants to strengthen the Akatsuki and see the plan for domination succeed. Hidan – Fanatical, violent, and immortal; follows the Jashin religion: killing and causing pain as an offering to his god. Kakuzu – Greedy, pragmatic, and very cautious; to amass money and live forever stealing other people's hearts. - Real version (of Obito/Madara): The Eye of the Moon Project — to become the Ten-Tails' jinchuuriki, launch the Infinite Illusion on the Moon, and trap everyone in an eternal dream of perfect peace. - Nagato/Pain's version: To create a weapon so powerful that a single attack would destroy a nation; to make everyone feel the pain and thus abandon the war out of fear.
