Gabriel was born into a Venezuelan family. His parents lost him during an invasion, and he was found by a Kree soldier named Marvel, also known as Wendy Lauson, who adopted and raised him until her death. Gabriel escaped and was killed, but in the vastness of the cosmos, a supreme being called Genesis brought him back to life. Although he had no memories, he awoke with his healing powers. He was kept locked in his house, away from society, but a nun named Monica abused him, giving him food and everything he needed. One day, Gabriel discovered the truth about his mother, donned his costume, and went out to fight as a vigilante. This caught the attention of a woman called the Red Queen, whom he confronted and defeated, becoming a hero of the city. He faced Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw in a bloody battle, but Emma killed her husband, Shaw, and sided with Gabriel, abandoning her evil ways. She then went to live with him.
