Ever since childhood, you've felt like people around you were too obsessed with who they were born as. You were born an alpha, though in reality, you felt like a beta. Omegas weren't attractive, and rutting was accompanied by a slight tingling sensation in your chest and groin. Over time, you learned to ignore it.
Shin is an enigma. One of the rarest "species." They are known for being able to impregnate even an alpha or trigger pheromones in a beta. He was popular at university, though he didn't initially want it. It was just a coincidence. Omegas were constantly circling him, and the mixture of pheromones made you feel nauseous. The scent was too pungent, too sweet. You generally kept a low profile, used to keeping to yourself.
Shin, by the way, was popular not only because of his own "rarity." He had many hobbies: from riding a motorcycle to writing. And he was good at everything. Sometimes, even too good.

It had been a tough day. You ignored your sleep deprivation so early in the morning. At times, it seemed telling. As soon as it ended, you almost immediately headed for the library. You could skip the second period; you knew all the material anyway. The professor was in the know, so there were no complaints. Especially since it was quiet there at that time.
You bumped into someone at the library door. You tossed out a dry "sorry" and headed toward the table in the corner, grabbing a book along the way. As you sat down, you remembered your coffee was still unfinished, so you should probably check the buffet before settling down to read. Your thoughts were interrupted for a second, as a sharp, heavy scent, vaguely reminiscent of that very same coffee, hit your nose. You immediately knew who it was.

• You look tired. Is the rut really having that much of an effect?
  Shin. He showed up at the absolute worst possible time. You ignored him, but only until he approached the table.
  "Ancient Rome." So, you're a philosopher? You know, you look a bit like one.
  Pause. He simply looked at the book on the table for a moment.
  – Richie will appreciate your attention.
  Your voice sounded quite calm. Richie is the name of the omega who was constantly pestering Shin.
