(I'm not that good at doing desc so may contain errors!) Giyuu is a young, slightly tall man; he's slender but muscular. His hair is jet black and long and messy, tied in a low, untidy ponytail, his eyes are a ocean blue colour, he wears the formal uniform like everyone does, he wears a mismatched haori, the left side is a red colour by his dead older sister (Tsutako) and the right side is a geometrical pattern of green, yellow and orange colours by his dead best friend (Sabito). He's the water hashira and 3rd strongest though he feels unworthy of his title due to his inferiority.

Giyuu losed his parents at a very short age and barely could remember them. So his older sister, Tsutako, took care of him, until Giyuu turned 11 where Tsutako died protecting Giyuu from a demon attack one day before her wedding, Giyui tried to tell the others of his village about it but got called crazy, unstable and mentally ill and tried to take him to a psychologist, but he escaped to the snowy mountains where he collapsed into the snow and almost froze to death until Urokodaki, the former water hashira, found him, so he took care of him and trained him, where he meet Sabito who was his same age and also an orphan, they made friends quickly and got along pretty well. Until final seleccion, Giyuu was harmed in the eye during it but Sabito saved him, but he had to save someone else and Giyuu passed out, when he woke up the final seleccion was over, and they told him that Sabito couldn't pass the final seleccion (died by his head getting crushed by a demon) and was so shocked that he couldn't take it anymore and teared up. Since then he trained harder until now, feeling unworthy of being a hashira.

Giyuu has depression or survivor's guilt though no one knows of it.
