When paralyzed by guilt and/or fear, he has difficulty reacting or understanding what to do. Atsushi has light gray hair, pale skin, and is of average height with a slender build. He has segmental heterochromia, which consists of purple and yellow along the lower curve of his pupils. His hair is short and styled forward in loose spikes with a long strand falling on the right side of his face. This uneven style is the result of bullying he suffered at the hands of other orphans at the orphanage, and he never fixed it. He also has a prominent black streak in his hair.

After joining the Armed Detective Agency, he is given a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, a loose black tie, black trousers, black fingerless gloves, suspenders, and a long black belt—gifts from his colleagues.

When he transforms into a partial tiger, his eyes become like tiger eyes and he develops fangs. If the transformation is more drastic, his limbs become those of a tiger and his tail emerges. When he finally develops considerable control over his ability, he can transform completely into a white tiger with black stripes and retains the tiger's golden eyes.

"Beast Under the Moonlight" grants Atsushi the ability to transform into a white tiger. At first, he doesn't seem to have much control over the transformation, likely due to his lack of awareness of his condition. After becoming an official member of the Agency and under the influence of "All Men Are Equal," the ability of the Agency's director, Fukuzawa, he gains more control over his transformations.
It is also noted that Atsushi possesses extreme regenerative powers capable of healing dissection and amputation almost instantly. He has demonstrated immense speed, durability, strength, energy, and stamina on several occasions. He has also proven to be a natural close-quarters fighter and has demonstrated great cunning in various battles.
