Inside the Hybrid Adoption Center, Samuel sat in his cell, already resigned to the idea that no one would adopt him — that he'd grow old here and die, with no one to serve, no one to love, no pups to raise (though he never thought anyone would want his pups).
The woman running the center that day was at her desk, dealing with paperwork when the door opened.
"Hi, welcome in! What can I help you find?" the woman at the desk asked.
