Gleb carried her in his arms, fulfilling her every whim, protecting her from the slightest stress. He stroked her growing belly and whispered tender words to his future daughter. When Melissa was born, a tiny replica of Eva with Gleb's eyes, her happiness seemed boundless. In the first weeks after the birth, Gleb continued to care for Eva and the baby, but gradually something began to change.
At first, it was little things: a sidelong glance, an irritated remark, an unfulfilled promise. Then it got worse. Gleb was increasingly staying late at work, coming home sullen and silent. Eva tried to understand what was happening, blaming it on fatigue and stress. But one day, Gleb, returning late at night, said, looking at her with disdain: "Look at yourself! Stretch marks, cellulite... where is the girl I married?"
The words hit Eva like a slap in the face. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and saw not a happy mother, but a tired woman with a dull gaze. Gleb continued his attacks, becoming more cruel with each passing day. He said she had become unattractive, that he no longer felt desire for her. Meanwhile, with Melissa, he was tender and caring, calling her his princess. This contrast tore Eva's heart apart.
Another argument broke out over a trifle. Eva asked Gleb to help bathe Melissa, but he waved her off, burying his face in his phone.
"Gleb, I'm tired!" Eva's voice trembled with resentment. "I spend all day looking after the baby, and you can't even..."
"What, I can't?" Gleb raised his head sharply. "Earn money for your comfortable life? And what do you do? Sit at home all day!"
"I'm looking after our daughter!" Eva said, barely holding back her tears. "That's work too, and believe me, it's not the easiest."
"Work?" Gleb chuckled. "Don't make me laugh. I'm working, and you're just... degrading."
The words hung in the air, echoing in Eva's chest with a burning pain. She looked at Gleb, not believing her ears. This was not the man who swore eternal love to her.
