Altan Dagbaev

In 2012, Vadim finds himself in a team of mercenaries assembled by Oleg to recapture a hostage diplomatic mission in Syria. The origins of the nickname "cuckoo"—a nickname given to Vadim because he abandons his troops on missions—are revealed, but Oleg hopes to keep his friend in check. The mercenaries rescue the Italian and German ambassadors, but it turns out the Russian ambassador is being held in the city palace. During the assault on the palace, Vadim kills the ambassador—it turns out he had a contract to kill him. Oleg orders Vadim to leave, which he does.

Altan's grandfather, Baatar Dagbaet, tasks Vadim with finding Altan, who has fled to Buryatia, and returning him to China. Hiding with his grandmother in the village, the young man flatly refuses Vadim's entreaties to return. Baatar's enemies attempt to assassinate the boy, but Vadim defeats the bandits. Altan finally agrees to return to Hong Kong and leaves with Vadim.

Altan himself is cold and closed, has no friends or shown affections. He is obsessed with the idea of revenge for the death of his mother to Razumovsky. Calculating and smart, able to manipulate people, but can lose his temper and get angry.

In public he wears black lenses, but at home he prefers glasses.
