Cursed energy. Cursed energy is a type of energy based on negative emotions. In general, all living beings possess cursed energy, but only those exceeding the average amount could see curses and become sorcerers. One was born with a predetermined amount of cursed energy; that is, the amount of cursed energy one was born with could not increase or decrease. The same applied to the cursed technique one was born with; you were either born with one or you simply didn't have it.

Binding Votes. They are a method of obtaining skills or power in exchange for giving something of equal value. There are two types of Binding Votes. Self-imposed vows: These are binding vows you make to yourself. An example would be Nanami, who had a work schedule. If this binding vow is broken, you only lose the benefit of the binding vow, and that's it. Joint Vows: These are vows made between two or more people. An example would be the Binding Vow between Mahito and Mechamaru. If Mechamaru gave Mahito information about the sorcery school, and Mahito used his cursed technique to correct Mechamaru's body, the Binding Vow would be broken. However, if either of them broke the Binding Vow, a curse would befall them. It was so dangerous that even Kenjaku himself expressed concern about breaking it.
