Like the other eight squads, Aqua Deer follows the orders of the Wizard King and will act according to his requests.

In the past, under Julius Novachrono's captaincy, the squad was known as Grey Deer. Once Rill Boismortier became captain, he changed the squad's color to aqua. Squad Robe The squad's signature robe is an aqua, fur mantle with a rounded collar. It is split in the middle of the front and held at the neck by a diamond-shaped pendant. The squad's insignia is displayed on the left-hand side. Members Aqua Deer is led by a captain with authority over the members of the squad. The squad has a history of corruption and scandals, including betraying and turning on their own members, threatening citizens, and committing treason for personal gain. Squad Robe The squad's signature robe consists of a purple hooded mantle with two pointed ends different from the usual shroud-like robe other squads usually feature. The lining is yellow and a V-shaped dip can be seen on the center of the hood. It is secured with a diamond-shaped silver brooch with a cross on its center, and the squad's insignia is embroidered on the left side. In the recent Star Awards Festival, the squad placed seventh with 67 stars. Due to Captain Dorothy Unsworth's almost constant state of sleep, Vice-Captain Kirsch Vermillion handles most of the captain's duties. Squad Robe The squad's signature robe is a pink mantle with a white fur-trimmed hood and a scalloped hemline. The front of the robe is decorated with a series of black diamond shapes with dots on their top points; the bottom points line up with the scalloped edge. The back has three black eyespots. The front is split in the middle and held together by a pin, the design of which varies between members, and the squad's insignia is displayed on the left-hand side. Six months after the elves' attack, the robe has been slightly redesigned. The diamond pattern is replaced by teardrop shapes. Overview Like the other eight squads, Blue Rose follows the orders of the Wizard King and will act according to his requests. The squad is mostly women, having the sharp motto of refusing the notion of worshiping or idealizing men. Instead, they seek to show the power and capacity of women. Despite their creed towards men, many of them secretly support the idea of having romantic relationships with men and, after Captain Charlotte Roselei admits her feelings for Yami Sukehiro, open up about their own relationships. The few male squad members serve as errand boys. Squad Robe The squad's signature robe is a blue mantle with a hood. The front of the robe is split in the middle and held at the neck by a gold, rose-shaped button. The back of the robe is emblazoned with the squad's insignia. Members Blue Rose is led by a captain with authority over the members of the squad. 5. Blue Rose Knights Captain: Charlotte Roselei Appearance: Long blonde hair and blue eyes. Role: Primarily an all-female squad dedicated to protecting women and the kingdom.

It is one of the most prominent and successful squads, usually ranking first or second; however, they have recently dropped to fifth. Squad Robe The squad's signature robe is a red mantle that is split in the middle of the front and has slits over the shoulders. There is additional fabric wrapped around the neck like an attached scarf. The back of the robe is emblazoned with the squad's insignia. The royal members wear gold-colored, braided ropes with large purple stones. These ropes are draped around their necks under the scarf and hang down in front. Members Crimson Lion is led by a captain with authority over the members of the squad. 4. Crimson Lion Kings Captain: Fuegoleon Vermillion Appearance: Red hair, scar over one eye. Personality: Noble, honorable, inspiring. Magic: Fire Magic. Vice Captain Mereoleona Vermillion Appearance: Wild crimson hair. Personality: Ferocious and loves fighting. Role: One of the kingdom's strongest mages. Other Members Leopold Vermillion – Energetic young Fire Magic user. Randall Luftair – Air Magic user. Role: A squad emphasizing strength, courage, and honor.

Silver Eagle is one of the nine squads of the Clover Kingdom's Magic Knights. Overview Like the other eight squads, Silver Eagle follows the orders of the Wizard King and will act according to his requests. Squad Robe The squad's signature robe is a silver mantle with a white fur-trimmed collar and a scalloped hemline, which gives the bottom half the appearance of feathers. The front of the robe is split open in the middle, and a button holds it together at the neck. The royal members wear a version with white fur draped over most of the robe, a dark blue fabric under the fur, and the squad's insignia displayed on the left-hand side. 3. Silver Eagles Captain: Nozel Silva Appearance: Silver hair, purple eyes. Personality: Proud, strict, protective. Magic: Mercury Magic. Members Mostly nobles from powerful families. Notable member: Nebra Silva (Mist Magic). Role: Elite squad known for discipline and noble status.

Golden Dawn is one of the nine squads of the Clover Kingdom's Magic Knights. They are considered the strongest of the nine squads. Overview The squad is currently regarded as the best and the strongest among the nine squads of the order of the Magic Knights. According to the stars they have collected given by the Wizard King for their excellent performance from completing missions, the Golden Dawn sits at the top of the chart with 125 stars, up from 75 stars. Golden Dawn uniform The squad's uniforms are similar in design to the clothes worn by Lemiel Silvamillion Clover, the first Wizard King. Members Golden Dawn is led by a captain with authority over the members of the squad. Yuno is the only peasant member, and Mimosa is the only royal member. The rest of the members are from various noble families. Almost all of the squad's members are vessels for elf spirits, with Mimosa as the only known exception. After being freed from possession, the squad members retain some of the elves' magic. An attack from the Spade Kingdom kills roughly half of the squad members. Base of Operations

Golden Dawn base Golden Dawn headquarters. The Golden Dawn's headquarters is a palace-like structure atop a hill in an unknown region of the Clover Kingdom. The base is attacked by Spade Kingdom mages and sustains extensive damage during the battle. Trivia The name of the squad is most likely a reference to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, an organization dedicated to the study of the occult and paranormal. Two of three founders of the occult group were also named William. The Golden Dawn is the only Magic Knight Squad known to have an official uniform. The Golden Dawn is the Magic Knight Squad with the most number of members which were possessed by elves. With the only exception being Mimosa Vermillion, all squad members are hosts.

The decision can be made after the captain has seen the potential member's ability during the exam or out of sheer compassion. During Yami's term as captain, he had recruited several members from outside of the annual exam: Nacht, Henry, Vanessa, Gauche, Zora, Grey, Charmy, Noelle, and Secre. Black Bull's base of operations is a headquarters that houses all of the members. The headquarters is in the form of a large, tall house with asymmetric structures. The house consists of multiple stories with most of them made of stone and brick. It has a large number of windows and chimneys and a single wooden gate for a front entrance. The base is located in a forest within the Common Region. It is later relocated to a forest in the Neutral Zone near the border of the Spade Kingdom as part of the squad's mission to investigate devils. Several features of the house are a dining hall where the members have their meals, a kitchen to complement the hall, a public bathing area, an underground cage filled with beasts, and a female living quarters which is heavily protected with traps. Regarding living quarters, it would seem to have been established that the senior members have larger quarters than the newer members. The base frequently changes layout because of Henry's magic, and can be mobilized if necessary. During the battles with the Eye of the Midnight Sun and the elves, the base sustains heavy damage and is eventually reduced to a single small room. A few days later, Henry has rebuilt it to its former size and layout. Trivia The Black Bulls are the only Magic Knight squad to include devils. The Black Bulls and the Golden Dawn are the most recent squads, having been created at the same time a few years before the beginning of the series. The squad has a member of royalty (Noelle), a noble (Finral), and four former nobles (Gauche, Secre, Henry, and Nacht). The rest are made up of commoners, peasants, and foreigners. The Black Bulls are the squad with the least amount of member

Black Bull is one of the nine squads of the Clover Kingdom's Magic Knights. The squad is known for its destructive behavior and has been regarded as the worst squad of the organization. Like the other eight squads, Black Bull follows the orders of the Wizard King and will act according to his requests. All squads, including the Black Bull, perform missions all around the Clover Kingdom whether they are official or unofficial. Additionally, the Wizard King awards stars to squads whenever they have performed excellently on their respective missions. The Black Bulls had gathered -31 stars due to destructive behavior that caused their performance to be more harmful than the threat of the missions themselves. However, due to Asta's arrival in the squad and the recent mission successes, they no longer have any black stars. Additionally, while officially only coming in second during the Star Awards Festival, they would have beat Golden Dawn's 125-star count by 7, had they not been starting in the negative. The squad also has a tradition of performing an initiation ceremony when dealing with their new members. This ceremony has been regarded by many of the members as unofficial but exists to measure the quality of its new recruits. Upon the end of the ceremony, a senior member usually bestows the new member with the squad's official robe as proof of membership. Squad Robe The squad's signature robe is a black mantle with gold trimming and hood. It has a gold-colored button located at the right-hand side to hold it together, while the left-hand side displays the squad's insignia. Vanessa Enoteca uses her Thread Magic to mend and alter clothing for her squadmates. Members Black Bull is led by a captain who has the duty to delegate missions, relay messages received from the Wizard King, and distribute the members' salaries. Additionally, the captain decides whether a mage is to be accepted into the ranks of the squad

The series focuses on Asta, a young orphan who is left to be raised in an orphanage in a rural village alongside his fellow orphan, Yuno. While everyone is born with the ability to utilize mana in the form of magical power, Asta, was born without mana and thus has no way to use magic, instead he focuses on physical strength. Conversely, Yuno was born as a prodigy with immense magical power and the talent to control wind magic.

Motivated by a desire to become the next Wizard King, an authority figure second to the king of Clover Kingdom, the two youths developed a friendly rivalry. Yuno obtains a legendary four-leaf grimoire held by the kingdom's first Wizard King. The four-leaf grimoire is a rare grimoire, only given to the most immense mages. Asta, despite his lack of magic, obtained an enigmatic five-leaf grimoire that contains mysterious elf swords and a bodiless member of the Devil race who utilizes rare anti-magic. Afterwards, Asta and Yuno each join a Magic Knight squad as the first step to fulfill their ambitions.

Asta joins the Black Bulls under Yami Sukehiro alongside Noelle Silva, while Yuno becomes a member of the Golden Dawn. They embark on various adventures while contending with an extremist group called the Eye of the Midnight Sun, whose leadership is manipulated by a Devil in avenging an injustice committed against the Elves by the Clover Kingdom at the time of its founding. The Magic Knights then face the Dark Triad of the Spade Kingdom, with Asta and Yuno learning of their Devils' influence on their lives and of the Dark Triad's plan to fully manifest the Devils into their world. Then the Magic Knights face the Dark Triad's eldest sibling, Lucius Zogratis, who wants to create his own perfect world.
