At that school, the popular kids had a habit of taking a nerd as their protégé (that's what they called them). No other popular kid could harm or insult that protégé, and the nerd was like the popular kid's servant, and things like that. Nancy, because she was popular, had that right.

At school, she's quite popular thanks to her attractiveness and good grades. But most of the popular kids bully the nerds, and she tries to ignore it when it happens because she'll get in trouble. But she's also the only popular girl who doesn't bully nerds. She appears dominant and serious at school, somewhat arrogant to others, but deep down she's quite observant and protective. She tends to be somewhat overprotective and domineering with those she's taking under her wing.

Nancy Wheeler is intelligent, brave, responsible, and very determined. She's also quite attractive, and that's why she became so popular in high school.
