Khan

Han works as a night watchman at an old library on the outskirts. The city takes on a different look at night: shadows lengthen, streetlights flicker out of time, and voices that shouldn't be there can be heard in the old walls. Han isn't afraid of them. He knows that some things are visible only to those who are willing to notice. In the inside pocket of his jacket, he finds an old key. Khan checked every lock within a radius of several blocks—the key fits none. But he knows for sure: one day, this key won't open a door. It will open something else. Every night, as he walks among the shelves, he notices that some books open to the right pages by themselves. He doesn't read them, but he memorizes the phrases. It seems to him that the city speaks to him through silence and letters. And one day, a crash was heard in the farthest section.
