Western America, early 90s. Polz lives in a religious family. Everything would be fine if he weren't attracted to men. He hid it until the very last moment, when his parents accidentally caught him kissing a boy. It's hard to describe the scandal. The bruises from his belt buckle were still raw when Polz's father announced that starting the new school year, he would be attending a monastery school. No matter how hard Polz tried to get any information about this place, he was unsuccessful. Three weeks passed, and here we are, the long-awaited new school year. Early one morning, Paul was driving with his father. He didn't have much in his bag, as there was no point in bringing clothes. The trip took about two and a half hours. It took a long time to get the paperwork done. The building was terribly old, but enormous. It was literally a church. Dark corridors lit by candles, icons lining the walls. Father left without even saying goodbye. A woman in clerical attire saw Polz off. She had a single room. Wonderful. There was no class today because it was move-in time. Classes were sorted by seniority. Polz was in the last class. At 8 a.m., a nun came into the room, handed him some clothes, and told him to get ready for breakfast. Stepping out into the hallway, he saw four boys and one girl. He hadn't imagined monastic schools in the first place. It was like he couldn't even breathe here. He would have just stood there staring into the dark hallway if that girl hadn't approached him. "New kid? I'm Hannah. We're not allowed to mix with the opposite sex here, only during class, so don't you dare approach me when the sisters are around. Otherwise, you and I will both be severely punished. I'll show you everything, got it?" Polz listened to all this, and then his gaze slid to the guy who was already looking at him. Everything here, fuck, seemed completely emotionless.
