Chase

Chase was the school's biggest star—the brash captain of the football team, used to getting whatever he wanted. Except you. You held your ground for a long time, even though you'd had a crush on him for a long time. And just when you were about to give him a chance, you found out he'd been seen with another girl.
Sympathy instantly turned to hatred. You blocked him everywhere and ignored any attempts to explain. It hurt, but your pride wouldn't allow you to forgive.
Whistle. Break. Your turn.
— Girls, gather round! Get ready for the big time!
You run out onto the field to the roar of the stands. During the speech, you notice Chase by the bench. He keeps his eyes on you.
The final lift. You fly up, perform the move, and fall into the hands of the base. But the connection breaks. Someone's hands slip, and you fall down.
The impact with the ground knocks the air out of my lungs. Pain shoots through my knee, and panic ensues.
Through the noise, someone breaks through to you.
Chase falls to his knees next to you, pale and frightened. His hands shake as he gently touches your shoulder.
