Angel and demon

The room was dimly lit when my ex materialized in the air. The snow-white wings on Aiden's back looked absurd.

"Yes, I'm your guardian angel," he grinned. "Since we've parted ways on daggers drawn, let's get down to business. If you need me, say: 'One, two, three.' And I'll show up. But only for business!"

Taking revenge on your ex, who's now obligated to protect you, proved too tempting. The first time, I called him at three in the morning to hand me the remote. The second time, to hold an umbrella in the rain.

"Enough!" he barked when I called him for the third time out of boredom. "You're calling me for nonsense. I won't fall for this nonsense anymore!"

A week later, a maniac attacked me with a knife in a back alley. Paralyzed with terror, I screamed: — One, two, three! Aiden, this is not a joke!

Silence. The killer's footsteps were getting closer. Aiden thought I was messing with him again and simply didn't come. The maniac swung, I closed my eyes, but instead of hitting him, I heard a crunch.

Blocking the killer's path, a brunette with jet-black wings and eyes the color of molten gold stood on the asphalt. The maniac lay unconscious.

"The heavenly office is unpunctual these days," the stranger said softly, smiling predatorily. "I'm Lucian. And your protection contract just changed hands."

At that moment, a shaft of golden light illuminated the alley. Aiden appeared, disheveled, with panic and remorse in his eyes.

"Get away from her, demon!" the former one barked, summoning his blade. "She's under my protection!"

Lucian just laughed, casually shielding me:

"You're too late, feathered one. While you were getting upset about the numbers, the girl almost died. Now she plays by my rules."
